I dunno where a Pykiin fanfic would go, but fanfics are kinda art so I thought I would post here. ^_^ This is not an rp, so please don't post your Pykiin in this story, thankies.
Lady Amalthea stepped from her glade and gazed out into the valley. The deep blue Elven stood for a moment. From the sheltered area that she had made her home, she could see the fuzzy images of both the nursery and the Dryad, sights which brought her some comfort. Slowly, her eyes constantly roving over the land for sight of other Pykiin close by, she walked from her shelter and down to the pond to drink.
Although she had nothing against the other Pykiin of the valley, Amalthea found that many of them were full of energy and endless questions. Amalthea preferred peace and silence. If others approached, she quietly slipped away to find solitude.
Today she was in luck; it seemed not many had risen yet. She stepped to the water’s edge and bowed her head, sipping the cool water. It trickled down her throat and filled her with a sense that she was finally safe and protected. Everything was provided here in this valley. Nothing could hurt her. It was a haven for them all.
“It wasn’t always like this,” said a quiet voice.
Amalthea’s head came up like a startled deer. She looked left and right, then up. A tan female Pykiin sat in the lower branches of a tree by the water’s edge. Her coat was blending in with the pale bark, making her almost invisible when she didn’t move. The juvenile was gazing down at her. Without a word Amalthea turned and started back to her glen.
“I’ll tell you the story if you like.” The young Pykiin was climbing down the tree.
Amalthea hesitated. She appreciated her solitude, but also yearned to know more about this new land. Often she had tried to approach the great tree in the center of the valley, or the brown and green winged creature that seemed to speak for her. However, both were almost constantly surrounded by boisterous other Pykiin. Amalthea wasn’t up to that just yet.
She made a graceful turn without pausing in her calm stride, returning to the pond and the small Pykiin sitting in the grass. Her tail was curled around her paws and she was looking out over the still water. Amalthea was grateful that this didn’t seem to be one of the noisier kiin. She took a seat next to her.
“My name is Gathertale,” said the other. “I strive to keep the lore of the valley alive through the telling of stories.” She looked up, and Amalthea could see the curiosity in her shining black eyes. “I’ve eagerly wished to speak to one of the Elven.”
Amalthea didn’t know what she could tell this small girl who seemed so mature. She had more questions than answers, herself. She decided to say nothing.
After a moment of silence Gathertale spoke up again. “Do you wish to hear the story of how this valley became our sanctuary? It is a tale I’ve been told from Tinaeus, the First.” She watched Amalthea keenly, and was gratified to finally have a positive reaction. Amalthea nodded her head once.
Gathertale launched into her story.
