More like guidelines than rules, but nevertheless a helpful topic. You don't have to follow these exactly, but if your newly acquired elemental steps out of the Dryad and starts using advanced magic immediately, it takes away from that pykiin's personal storyline.
This will also be helpful in terms of secondary magic - for example, when you think of water elementals you know that they can control water. However, they can also heal wounded pykiin. Other elements have special secondary abilities as well.
A good guideline - if you haven't seen one of the Four reach or exceed a certain level of magic, don't try it just yet. Magical abilities increase with time. Also, if you don't know which element a certain ability fits under, ask me. I'm open to suggestions on how the Valley develops
Without further ado...
Earth
Level 1 - Plant control
Any living plant (excludes trees) can be manipulated. Usually begins with grass and leaves, then progresses to flowers.
Level 2 - Tree control
Any living tree can be manipulated. Usually begins with saplings and progresses to older stronger trees.
Level 3 - Earth control
Dead organic matter can be manipulated. Cannot be brought back to life. Includes rocks and dirt.
Level 4 - Plant fabrication
Plants (including trees) can be brought into existence. Usually, seeds are brought into existence and then manipulated to grow using Level 1 or 2 powers - much less energy-exhausting then bringing a mature plant into existence.
Water
Level 1 - Water control
Water can be manipulated. Usually begins with individual droplets or small quantities of water and progresses upward. Generally, the higher the level of the elemental, the more water he/she can control at one time.
Level 2 - Ice control
Ice and snow can be manipulated. Usually begins with individual snowflakes or small ice crystals and progresses upward.
Level 3 - Healing
Living creatures can be healed. Usually begins with minor pain (headaches, stomachaches) and progresses to wounds or permanent damage.
Level 4 - Water fabrication
Water can be brought into existence rather than summoned from another source.
Fire
Level 1 - Fire control
Fire can be manipulated.
Level 2 - Harmless Fire
Fire can be "tamed" - made so that it cannot harm others. Harmless fire is usually blue, but with practice can be manipulated to normal coloration.
Level 3 - Shade speaking
Shades can be summoned, but not manipulated. Shades are the magical opposite of Lumitirae, and they are born of air and emptiness. Generally, shades will cling to objects or hang in the sky and cause darkness.
Level 4 - Fire fabrication
Fire can be called into existence rather than summoned from another source.
Air
Level 1 - Air control
Air can be manipulated.
Level 2 - Wind control
Major air currents can be manipulated, even to the point of picking up and relocating objects.
Level 3 - Lumitirae speaking
Lumitirae can be summoned, but not manipulated. Lumi are the magical opposite of Shades, and they born of the sun and fire. Generally, Lumi will cling to objects or hang in the air, causing light.
Level 4 - Air fabrication
Air can be called into existence, rather than summoned from another source. Helpful underwater, as air cannot be efficiently summoned while underwater.
This will also be helpful in terms of secondary magic - for example, when you think of water elementals you know that they can control water. However, they can also heal wounded pykiin. Other elements have special secondary abilities as well.
