Well I'm sitting at my computer and I happen to glance up and... there's a frog on my window!
He's a small guy smaller than my palm, with suction pads on all his toes! He's colored brown with black marks, and has bright bright yellow on his thighs.
Well I sat there and just stared at the little verticle guy, trying to wonder how the heck he got up there. See, this window is on the back of the house, where the ground slopes downward and the basement has windows to let in light. So he's techincally on the second story window back there! Not to mention he's on the top half of the window. My only guess is that he jumped over from a tree.
Well I decided to do a little sleuthing online and looked up frogs in Maine, and sure enough, I found this website!
www.enature.com/fieldguides/detail.asp?recnum=AR0020
It mentions his yellow thighs and says "Nocturnal; they live high in trees and descend only at night, usually just to chorus and to breed."
So that explains that! Haha. He must have jumped down from the tree outside. Now he's just hanging out, he's been sitting there for a good half hour now. He's very cute to watch, and he doesn't mind me shining my flashlight on him to look at his patterns (though it's hard to see anything but his undersides with him stuck to the window like that! lol!)
This must be some kind of magic window, because last night this window attracted a lunamoth! I heard this thump and looked up, just in time to see something the size of a chickadee fly right into the window. I was worried but I said to myself "birds don't fly at night..." Sure enough, the thump came back and eventually rested on the window pane. It was a beautiful (AND HUGE) lunamoth! Well the poor thing kept flying into the window again and again so I quickly turned out the living room lights and hoped it would go away. Poor thing.
It's times like this that make me wish I had a camera.
