((Sorry for the long intro, anyone feel free to join.))
"I'm not a child anymore, Mother." Kiarilia's gaze was firm, and she met her mother's eyes. She would no longer be subservient to her mother, or to the Chosen, simply because of what they were. Each Chosen would have to earn her respect the same as any normal, unChosen pykiin, and that included the Chosen of Athena.
Athena's smile was patronizing. "Of course you're not, the Dryad and the gods have grown you into a fine young lady. But you still have your place here." Rilia had always been a troublesome child, but surely now that she was older, she would settle down properly.
Rilia shook her head slowly. "No, Mother. The place you offer me here is not one I would have. I have known that for a while now. You would have too, if you payed attention to anything outside of your duties as Chosen. I'm your daughter. That never seemed too important to you. Now it's not important to me either."
"Of course you're important to me! You're my child!" Athena was aghast at this accusation of parental negligence. A Chosen had her duties, of course, and her offspring should never place herself before those duties. But Rilia was still her daughter.
Rilia ignored the protestation. "You have Lyr now. He's a proper little Chosen's Child. He'll learn his lessons well, and not trouble you when you are busy. He will be a true son to you, as I have not been. And now, it is time for me to go." Not waiting to hear Athena's answer, she launched herself into the sky, her wings pumping to take her away from her childhood home, to return her to the place she belonged. The Valley.
