So, at around 9:15 last night, our neighbor (whom none of us at my house had ever met) rang our door bell. She had her fifth grade son with her, and she was holding a cat. Well, a kitten, to be more precise.
The lady said that she'd been jogging with her son and this cat followed her and her son home. Ran with them, actually. So anyways, they brought the cat around the neighborhood asking if anyone knew who the cat belonged to. Someone told the lady that they'd seen the cat hanging around our house for a few days.
Well, my mom didn't think much of it and sighed. She told the lady that my cat, Aero had just passed away while we were on vacation and that I'd found out yesterday morning. Well, my mom has a very big heart, but she doesn't want to take in more animals, since it's only four years till I leave for collage, and five till my brother is, as well. So she went to go ask my dad, and he came out, gave a few "aww"s, then my mom agreed that we could watch over him. I'd make signs in the morning, I'd hang them up with the little missy (the girl I'm babysitting), then when someone called for the cat he'd be out of our hair.
So... well, long story short, my dad suggested that instead of putting pictures and a bunch of fancy wordplay on the poster, we simply put "Cat Found, please call to identify, (then a number)". We joked around a little, since the cat is so sweet. He ate right away, went bathroom in the literbox, drank some water, then snuggled with all of us. He cries if we leave him. :')
He slept on my bed with me last night. All night. Yesterday would have been the first night that I'd slept without Aero on my bed, and yet this little fellow was there for me, just like Aero was there for me when Shadow died (though I don't think that many people know of Shadow...).
---
So this morning the little missy and I put "Found Cat" signs on all three mailboxes (they're the big ones with like, twenty boxes per thing) in the neighborhood. No call. Thank goodness.
My mom called my aunt (Cafall/Cafallone. She was taking care of our pets while we were in Hawai'i) and asked if she was the one who stuck a cat on our front door, since she was the one who found Aero. *shrug* Anyways, Cafall said that she didn't put the cat there, but the day after Aero died, this cat started appearing on our front door, and it seemed to be waiting for something. He did that for a few days. She described the cat as the one that we're taking care of.
Mom went to Petsmart to get a few things, and she picked up some shampoo, cat toys and a pretty blue collar while she was there. Now he has a collar, had a bath, and some new cat toys which he thoroughly enjoys.
The lady at the cricket counter said that, while she's hardly religious at all, she believes that this little guy coming by our home must have been God's will. :')
Oh, and we named him (I think.). We're calling him Caspian. <3
