((Anyone can join! Nakama is lonely and feeling sorry for himself. Aw, all my boys go through an emo stage. XD ))
Nakama slipped from Ryuu's hut in the early morning hours, before the sun had even peeked over the Valley walls. He jumped over Azure's tail as she lay by the front door, curled around her daughter Arden, both sound asleep. Then he fluttered his wings and took off for the Valley.
Everything was painted in soft shades of gray and lavender, just enough light to see by, but not enough to actually be called "sunlight" just yet. The stars--the real stars, not the pattern imprinted on his fur--were gone from the sky as was the moon.
Nakama landed in the soft grass right next to a random quiet pond and curled his double tails around him. Since it was summer the air was warm, even without the sun, but he was troubled.
"Nakama means family. It's because you belong to such a special family, that's where you got your name."
He'd been told that--or something like that--lots of times. Ryuu said it, and the Pykiin in her Pounce did too. Everyone knew Yue and Solar and their kits . . . they were the famous 'family' of the Valley.
Nakama sighed. He didn't feel like he belonged to a family at all. He used to live with his mother, father, and siblings, but then Hoshi grew up and Tsuki was an adult now too. And then his mother and father were gone a lot of the time, and he was too lonely to stay in an empty cave. He returned to Ryuu's hut to live with the rest of her Pounce.
A lot of rumors floated through the Valley, especially if you listened to Bondeds chattering to each other. Nakama had heard several things about the famous 'family' when people didn't know he was listening. He heard there was a new adult male hanging around Solar and Yue now. Some sort of uncle or something he didn't even know he had. And now he heard that Yue and Solar had new kits! No one even bothered to come tell him anything, he heard it from two Rodeli scurrying by.
The little star-covered kiin waded into the pond and felt the cold seeping through his fur, right to his skin and into his core. He was the only kiin left in his family, and they didn't even remember him. They were off having adventures and left him behind. He wished he could wash the stars out of his fur and just be a normal Pykiin, without any connection to the famous 'family' of the Valley. But he couldn't escape them. Every time someone said his name, he was reminded.
"My name is a fake," he muttered to himself, trudging out of the pond with cold water dripping off him. He curled up by the water's edge and closed his eyes.
