That's a very good question. They might be able to become a certain elemental, but it may just be limited to one kind. For example:
Fire breed can only be a fire elementals, Syrens can only be water elementals, Elven can only be earth elementals, and Flitters can only be air elementals.

But seeing that all elements have a breed, they probably can be any element or none at all.

They can be elementals, but they won't be able to use certain special items based on what their first element is. And they won't be able to get elemental mutations either... *dies thinking of a water-element Kitsune*
