Wheee, I return from Anime Boston! La la la. How fun it was! It's the first time I've been to Anime Boston, even though it's the closest large con to my state. lol.
Also the first con I didn't pre-register at. We forgot and ran out of time. >.> What that means is, instead of going to the convention center Thursday night and getting your badge, you have to stand in line Friday morning and wait to register on their system and get your badge made for you there.
So yeah, we lined up at 9 am Friday morning and finally got our badges at 3:30 pm. Yup, we stood in line for six and a half hours. I'm never forgetting to pre-reg again!!
But I had a lot of fun otherwise. It's a smaller con so there's not that much going on. Well, there's lots going on but there are things not everyone likes. Like there was a j-pop band concert Saturday and I don't like concerts so I didn't go to that one.
Mostly I hung out with friends and wandered between the Dealer's Room and the Artist Alley (those are the two major things every con has and everyone blows all their money on) XD Yay for a new pile of anime and manga!!
Booo for no more money. lol. Counting my spending spree, bus fair from Maine to Boston, and food and stuff, I spent over $200 this weekend. Eep.
But it's okay, anime cons are what I save up for all year. ^_^

There needs to be a Momo. You just can't have Appa without Momo. And I need to catch up on watching episodes. I'm not a very dedicated Avatard, since I don't have cable.

Just because Avatar isn't anime doesn't mean it's not an awesome show. ^_^
Me and others in my anime club used to get into huge discussions about whether Avatar counts as anime. It depends on your definition of the word. The actual word comes from Japan itself and means "animation," so technically anything animated would be anime. A Japanese person would refer to anything animated as "anime." However, here in America it usually tends to refer to animation that looks like a certain style and comes from Japan.
There's many shows that mimic the anime style but come from America, such as Avatar, or another country, such as Code Lyoko. It's up to the individual whether or not you want to call them "anime" based on their country of origin or not.
As for me, I use the word anime to only refer to animation that comes from Japan, because I'm interested in the Japanese culture and how it affects different shows. But my friend Alison, whoa now if you can't say that around her, she'll be furious. She believes anime is a certain style, regardless of country. She draws in that style herself, and refuses to believe she can't be an anime artist just because she wasn't born in Japan. So it's all up to the individual.

I really don't mind what style of artwork it is. To be honest, I'm not an anime fan, it's just not 'my thing'. I agree that Avatar isn't anime, actually, because if it was it would have never caught my eye - the first thing that drew me to the series was the style of animation.
And I hate to sound like I'm bashing, but Code Lyoko has a terrible artistic style. It's so extremely distorted that it takes the charm away from the characters completely. On the other hand, and somewhat unrelated, distorted animation like the Triplets of Belleville can give the characters a unique look that draws in the viewer and repels them at the same time. It's fascinatingly odd, and after a while you become comfortable with the way the characters look, and then you're constantly admiring the visual aspect of the film because of the unique style. (Can you tell that I'm a raving fan of ToB?)

Ohhh man Triplets of Belleville is so WEIRD! lol. But I liked it. My roommate rented it. The animation did take some getting used to but by the end I accepted it as an integral part of the story. <3

Hahahah, when my French teacher showed it to our class everyone was wierded out by the way the characters looked x3 But it was a very interesting story, quite funny too, and told in such an interesting way. I recently found Mathieu Chedid, one of the musical artists who worked on Belleville Rendezvous, and his style is pretty much the same thing - wierd in an interesting way, but once you get used to it, it's a refreshing type of wierd www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMzoNO3wdY4
