I need to post Halloween pictures here, it was a blast
I found my late grandfather's old hunting jacket, which was perfectly raggedy and heavy for a Davy outfit, but when I put it on I realized how important the jacket was. It's heavy and warm, and it smells just like him, like my grandmother's basement that still smells of carpentry, of woodlands and wilderness. It smells warm and sharp, inviting, strong, and protective. I can remember all of the wonderful times we had together, and I don't feel like stashing it away in our basement again to be forgotten. I want to keep it.
We trudged around the neighborhood, zigzagging across the street countless times, and I got plenty of attention in my big, cumbersome mask. My visibility was limited, and a couple of people were just plain wierded out by my mask, but it was fun The most annoying part was that the latex was rubbing against my eyebrows whenever I moved, and by the time we reached the end of the street they were quite raw. It was worth it, though. A little boy, about three or four and dressed in a cute frog outfit, was half-hiding behind his mother. She asked him if he wanted to go give me a high-five, and the little boy was too scared to, so I walked up to him and took off my mask. He looked pretty relieved and interested, gave me a high-five, and went on his way. It was too cute :3
When we got back, it was time for the infamous candy tradeoff. Every year, we all sit on the living room floor and dump our catch into a pile in front of us, then start yelling what we have willing to trade and tossing candy across the room into each-others' piles. This year there were five of us, three of which didn't like Reese's peanut butter cups - my personal favorite, as well as my boyfriend's. After much trading and candy-tossing, I was able to divide the mountain of Reeses into two piles, one of which I plan on planting in a certain someone's locker tomorrow morning.
So, how were everyone else's Halloween celebrations, if you've had them yet? I hope you all had fun!
