Almost a Family

Emerald's face was a swish of emotion, going from shock to amazement to pure joy.

"I would be honored," Emerald replied as she leaned over and nuzzled his cheek.

Then like any typical soon to be bride, for she really had been spending too much time with Jade lately, then began the almost incoherent stream of questions in her brain, such as who to tell first but more importantly...

"Where will we live? I don't mind moving, but I would prefer to be close to the main den, I've been helping Sugar with all the little ones, though I'm sure Rosie and Safyre will help as well and what about Peri," she spoke, almost as if thinking aloud.

She shook her head as if to stop the full on train of thoughts and looked back at Lakrai.

"None of it really matters, I'll have my family together," she said as she lay her head on his shoulder.

Lakrai's eyes were fixed on Emerald's face, watching the emotions stream across with baited breath. This was the one moment when all could go wrong. He was quickly reassured by her words and caress, which he returned. "I'm so happy," he answered softly, relieved beyond words. He had a family. "We have a family," he repeated aloud, just to hear the words.

Focusing on her question, he offered, "I have a cave... it's nothing special, just a two rooms, back in the forest. I don't mind moving if it's too far away from your pounce." He smoothed a patch of grass and quickly sketched a small map to show her where it was. "We'll find Peri and Sonea and let them know. I'm sure they'll be very happy for all of us." That was a concern he hadn't thought of, Sonea's reaction. No matter, he was sure she'd be adult about it. "But first, I think we should go announce the good news to our offspring, and your bonded of course."
