From Greek Απολλων (Apollon), which is of unknown meaning, though perhaps related to Indo-European *apelo "strength". Another theory states that Apollo can be equated with Appaliunas, an Anatolian god whose name possibly means "father lion" or "father light". The Greeks later associated Apollo's name with the Greek verb απολλυμι (apollymi) meaning "to destroy". In Greek mythology Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin of Artemis. He was the god of prophecy, medicine, music, art, law, beauty, and wisdom. Later he also became the god of the sun and light.
Personality:
Apollo is fairly shy, but he hides it beneath a very polite exterior. He is an optimist, most of the time, but he has his somber moments here and there, and can withdraw into moods. If pressed, he will fight, but he much prefers the calmer disciplines, especially that of singing. It is not unusual to hear him quietly humming or singing to himself.
He is friendly most of the time, but can get intimidated by bigger and more forceful pykiin. He is quite fond of young 'kiin, though, and always willingly spend time around them.
Pounce Mates:
Apollo's only pounce mate currently is Siofra, whom he is already fond of. They are not officially a pounce yet, but she is the one who showed him into the Valley, finding him on the outskirts, and he is very grateful for that, now believing her to be a sign from Apollo Himself.
History:
Apollo is a Chosen flitterkiin from a land called Olympus. That land, however, was full of violence and resentment between the Chosen and the 'commoners,' not to mention between the Chosen themselves. After many threats, a fight with Hera broke his resolve to stand tall and deal with the all the troubles of his land, and he fled. He traveled for a long while before reaching the outskirts of the Valley. There he met a fellow flitterkiin, Siofra and her bonded Aderyn, who led him further into the Valley. He had the good fortune to meet another Chosen, Athena, who has given him leave to reside in the sacred valley adjacent to that of the main Valley.
Apollo was not always a Chosen, however; he grew up in a small family with many brothers and sisters, which may be why he is so fond of young 'kiin. It took much training to battle his natural clumsiness with grace, but he took well to the organized learning insisted on by his people, and even more so by the Chosen. Even now he is most comfortable following a routine, and is eager to learn new skills and ideas.
