[glow=navy,2,300]Lady Amalthea: The Ghost[/glow] Amalthea was the prize for winning K13's quiz contest! I worked very hard to get her, even going to a hotel parking lot for wireless access when I didn't have any in the house. XD And yes, she's named after one of the best stories ever written! Name: Lady Amalthea Pronounced: ah - MAHL - thee - ah Gender: Female Age: Adult Personality: hard to tell, very mistrustful and doesn't get close to anyone, speaks softly and formally Likes: unknown Pounce: they haven't met her Relationships: none, keeps to herself Children: Elk, Kambo (with Moose) Dalila, Liir, Liam (with Leonardo) History:Amalthea arrived in the valley in the dead of night, and few have seen her since. She has a secluded glade where she lives, and she prefers solitude to companionship. If other Pykiin approach her she will usually turn and calmly leave. She's rarely sighted, which has earned her the nickname of 'the ghost.' During the first breeding season she concented to giving some of her magic to the Dryad, along with the male Elven Moose, to produce a male and a female kit. She took the male to her glade to raise herself and trusted the female to Moose, who took her to his Pounce. Elk, her son, has grown into a young Elven kiin and struggles between making relationships with other Pykiin and respecting/understanding his mother's need for seclusion. Surprisingly, this secluded female had more kits in the second breeding season, but this time neither she nor their father raised the young ones, who grew up in the nursery alone. I'm glad everyone knows who I'm talking about. She's updated now! ^_^ Well, still needs certing, but at least you can see her! The movie and book are both wonderful, and I've loved them ever since I was little. Sadly the new DVD that was just put out does next to nothing for the author of the original book. They tricked him in the contract and he makes no money on any of the new DVD's. That breaks my heart, he should really be paid for his wonderful work creating this masterpiece. There's one website you can order the DVD from and they go out of their way to pay the author themselves. Read more: www.conlanpress.com/youcanhelp/I should also mention the book's first page has this written on it as the dedication: "To the memory of Dr. Olfert Dapper, who saw a wild unicorn in the Maine woods in 1673" Since I was born in Maine and I've lived here all my life, this never fails to give me goosebumps, no matter how many times I read it. As a child unicorns were to me what dragons are to me now, the other hidden half of my soul. So yes, this is a special Pykiin to me. ^_^

I didn't know that, Ryuu. I think I'll go look for a copy of the book, when I get a chance. Though... that reminded me of a night about three years ago when my dad was driving me brother and I home from the hospital after seeing our Opa. We were driving by an orchard, and I swear I saw a unicorn. It may just have been a reflection of the car's headlights, but I really believe it was a unicorn. And that was sort of magical, in more ways than just the unicorn. My Opa died a few months later, but still, the unicorn was almost like... well, I can't discribe it. But when you mentioned Dr. Olfert Dapper, it just reminded me of that night. Anywho, that was a tad off-topic. I really like Lady Amalthea, she does look a lot like a unicorn.

Interesting, Panda! She indeed seems to have the grace of one, if not the colors. ^_^

Of course I've read the Unicorn Chronicles!! Bruce Coville was my favorite author as a child, he was the one who inspired me to become a fantasy writer. ^_^ I own every one of his books! The Unicorn Chronicles are very awesome. There's also an anthology he edited called A Glory of Unicorns, which is great too!
